Submission to Highways Agency option review of M6 Expansion

Group: Group Against Motorway Expansion
Description:

Despite 98% of 9000 respondents objecting to expansion of the M6 between Birmingham and Cheshire in 2004, the Roads Minister ordered further work on two options: an entirely new tolled motorway through the Staffordshire and Cheshire countryside, or widening of the existing motorway. GAME propose a Third Option - traffic reduction and no roadbuilding

Title: Survey of Desired Traffic Solutions in Tintwistle (Peak Park)
Group: Save Swallow's Wood/Alternative Proposals for Transport
Description:

To counter local Councillors' claims that 94% of local residents support the bypass proposals, the local groups devised a questionnaire and targeted homes within the National Park boundary. The purpose of the survey was for the campaigners themselves to ascertain the mood in the village, and to present the findings of the survey to the National Park Authority.

Title: Preliminary Study into a Weight Restriction in the National Park

Description:

CPRE commissioned a study into the potential for implementing a weight restriction across the National Park and its effectiveness as an alternative to the proposed Mottram-Tintwistle bypass.

Description:

The local group organised a series of exhibitions in the local area, following on the "official" Highways Agency exhibitions of the bypass plans. To advertise the event they placed the following advert in the local paper. Over 150 people attended the exhibitions and £90 was raised at the three events, from donations and sale of refreshments.
