URGENT: Request a 'call-in' of the planning application for the Heysham to M6 Link Road (Lancaster Northern Bypass)

Support the excellent Transport Solutions for Lancaster and Morecambe local group in their calls for a 'call-in' of the planning application. This means the government hold a full public inquiry into the scheme, rather than the council conducting their own little narrow inquiry into the just the Compulsory Purchase Orders etc. If there is enough controversy, the government have powers to 'call it in'. The local group are huge and represent the local community, and have the backing of their MP Geraldine Smith.

Dear XX

I am writing to request a call-in on the planning application for the Heysham to M6 Link (Lancaster Northern Bypass). We understand Government Office for the North West currently has an Article 14 direction on the decision. My grounds for asking for a call-in are as follows:

* I believe the northern route is not in the Lancaster and District Local Plan, and so is a departure from the plan and should go to a full public inquiry.

* I am very concerned that the scheme will generate additional traffic whilst not relieving congestion in Lancaster or the surrounding area.

* I am particularly concerned about the climate change impact of the scheme as the Appraisal Summary Table for the scheme shows an additional 23,514 tonnes of carbon dioxide will be created with the scheme. This is contrary to government commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

* I understand that it will also bring significant noise and pollution to local residents, and damage the Green Belt and the River Lune.

* There are a significant number of objections from local residents, and Geraldine Smith MP is also requesting a call-in.

I hope you will agree to these requests for a call-in and look forward to hearing from you.

Yours,
